Green has been a common choice as a color for currency. Currency also serves to make Demand effectual (ability to pay). This means that not all (notional) demands are met by the market. Only those backed by money.
 
Some societies seek to assure that demand for certain goods and services are meet, e.g. universal access to healthcare services.
 
The yellow draws the eye away from the traditional focus on supply and demand equilibrium to the ‘corner solution’ whereby certain societal demand is (at least attempted to be) met.
