According to George Shackle, decision and choice involve an essential element of non-necessity (akin to Pollock inspired abstract expressionism), while the dictates of rationality, by contrast, impose themselves inexorably, with necessity, so that choice (in its full meaning) pulls in a different direction from rationality (as manifest in the clean and crisp straight-lines).
